We accidentally broke the command line options in v0.9.0, but they work
again for v1.0.0 (released this past Sunday).

Currently, we rely on the distributions to do this.  For example, Ubuntu
has an update manager that automatically lets you know when new releases
are available.  However, other applications on the desktop do indeed
provide the behavior of notifying you when a new release is available.
This sounds like a good RFE (request for enhancement) to log in
bugzilla.gnome.org - I created one so we wouldn't lose the thought:
