Things are definitely looking better wrt Festival - I can get it
working well on my Ubuntu Dapper Drake system w/o needing to modify
anything in gnome-speech. I love those problems that seem to
disappear if you ignore them long enough ;-).
BTW, I spent some time getting Orca going with Ubuntu Dapper Drake
Flight 6 on my Toshiba Tecra M2 laptop over the weekend. My loose
notes are here:
http://live.gnome.org/Orca/UbuntuDapperDrake
The good news is that Festival works fine with it and I'm not seeing
the same hangs and behavior that I was seeing before with the pipe/
socket to the Festival server.
I'm also working on similar notes for Open Solaris (using FreeTTS as
the synthesis driver). Do you have notes you took to get Orca going
on your system? If so, it would be great to get them on the Orca
WIKI to help others running down the same path as you.
Thanks!
Will

Hi Jan:
I don't think the problem is whether festival itself works or not,
it's the interaction between festival and gnome-speech, and also
perhaps with gnome-speech on a 64-bit distribution. I've not had
time to look into a fix for either of these problems. :-(
