I've just downloaded and installed strace, and I'm now thinking my problem 
is before ORBit has a chance to really get going. - the output I get is 
attached. It appears to still be loading libraries. I guess this might 
explain why I don't get a legible backtrace out of gdb.
I currently have both gnome-1.4 and gnome-2 library locations specified in 
my ld.so.conf. Will this cause a problem?
