It's not necessarily clear whether they are working "fine" or not.
First, is this an encrypted AP, and is it using WEP or WPA encryption?
Or is it unprotected?

Second, what's the output of 'lsmod'?

Third, getting some debugging information from NM and wpa_supplicant as
described here:

http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManager/Debugging

under the sections "Debugging WiFi Connections" is useful.  We're
looking for /var/log/daemon.log and /var/log/wpa_supplicant.log which
show the failing connection attempt.
