Sudden hang-ups with 3 mobile broadband

For the past few weeks I've been plagued by sudden hang-ups with my
MF636 three mobile broadband USB modem. There's this error in the logs:

Feb 25 21:19:01 lithium kernel: option: option_instat_callback: error
-108

What does that mean?

Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a way to alleviate
this?
