Yes, if you have no system connections defined.  That connection is
read-only in recent releases.

"Auto eth0" never actually was writable, it would discard the changes
you made anyway because it wasn't written out to disk, because there was
no enabled plugin to write it out to disk.  There are better ways to
handle this, but until those are written, the "Auto eth0" is marked
read-only.

If you create another system connection with your distro's normal
network configuration tools, then the "Auto eth0" one will go away.
