wireless problem resolved

Dear Moderator:

I sent an earlier request to the list (though I am not subscribed) and
it is awaiting moderation as I write this.

In the meantime, the underlying issue seems to have been resolved by
some updates over the weekend.  Also, my guesses as to the problem
turned out to be wrong. 

So, in any event, there is no particular reason to post my earlier
message to the mailing list.
