If you have a DHCP server, but it's down, falling back to IPv4LL
doesn't get you anywhere.
... and NOT falling back does not get you anywhere either. So here it
does not make much difference.
After thinking about it, this is actually not true. Even in the "DHCP
down" case a fallback to link local is useful.
There are more and more peer to peer applications out there and you
typically want both external connectivity AND reach your .local
neighbours. A failure of the former should not imply a failure of the latter.
Even when your DHCP server is down, you still want to pull fresh code
from your collegues' git repositories at work or stream video to your
Apple TV box at home.
Anyway thanks for answering and making clear that NetworkManager is
designed not to have this feature any more. This avoids wasting time
looking for it.
