The light on my laptop indicating that the device is on, never turned on
using NM.  But if I do:
cu -l /dev/ttyACM0

AT+CFUN=1


Then the light does come on.

I have 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2~nm4 from the PPA on Intrepid.
