You can stop network manager with:

sudo /etc/dbus-1/event.d/25NetworkManager stop

Then run Network Manager with NetworkManager --no-daemon and you can
see the output in the console.   I am not sure if this will give you
more information than what you see in /var/log/messages or
/var/log/syslog but it might.

I think that the version 0.6.6 in Hardy is pretty close to stock right
now except for the Manual Configuration patches.

What do you mean by "Guest mode off"?   Do you mean that the SSID is
not broadcasting?

Are you running an Intel 3945 or 4965?
