Can not create an encrypted ad-hoc network (ipw3945)

Hello
I am using NM 0.6.4 on FC6 x86_64 with the ipw3945 drivers (1.1.3).
I can create a ad-hoc network without any encryption and it works fine.
But when I select wep or wpa it trys to connect for a long time and
fails (without any errormessage in the logs).
Whats wrong? Does NM support this at all or is it a driver/configuration
issue?
