Thanks for the pointers. So, if I read these correctly the main argument is "renaming is dangerous when you can trigger it through clicky-clickery". Well all I can say is that I strongly disagree and this severely limits what you can do with nautilus when there is an intentional restricted interaction with right click menus and all.
