Thanks for the pointers.

So, if I read these correctly the main argument is "renaming is
dangerous when you can trigger it through clicky-clickery". Well all I
can say is that I strongly disagree and this severely limits what you
can do with nautilus when there is an intentional restricted interaction
with right click menus and all. But as said in the bugs, there is strong
opinions on both sides so I fear that even if the code was written it
would be rejected.
