I don't mean to devalue the feature of frequently used items. That would
be nice, I guess -- but...

There is another solution to prevent extensive scrolling and searching,
that works right now. Start typing the name of the project... :)
Nautilus supports typeahead-find. That is, by simply typing in a file's
name, the selection will instantly jump to the first item that starts by
that name.
Try it, you might love it. ;)
