I totally agree. Speed is the main issue with nautilus. Did someone run profiler benchmarks and recognized *where* exactly the bottleneck is ?

On an athlon 750 with 512 mb ram and even medusa in the background it still takes ages.

It's 1.0.6 here
One can see how the window opens: frame, buttons, sidebar, new background, icons. It does not get faster when turning off all the fancy features.
