Part of the problem was certainly partly bonobo, in 2 ways - the way
rendering pixmaps was handled, and the way we were re-building widgets
on update was not particularly helpful.
But - both of these issues are fixed in bonobo-1.0.18, I have a P III
650, and it takes ~2-3 secs to open a new window on my home directory (
when I have one already open ).

I'm running 1.0.6 and bonobo-1.0.18 from Ximian.
