I've a sawfish binding for an xterm which does me fine. "Winkey+x"
I suppose it would be easy to do a script of "Console to this dir." I
seem to remeber that Windows had such a feature when you installed the
Power Toys add on.

Though the idea of having a horizontal pane across the bottom of the
window is a nice one.
