The AA fonts in nautilus are a hack.  The XFree86 4.0.2 Xrender
extension (and presumably GTK+ 2.0 with support for it) is the better
way.  As soon as Xrender is widely available, Nautilus will of course
use that.

Now, for the actual timetable for Xrender support in GTK+, you need to
ask the GTK+ hackers.
