I think I just stumbled across the solution for this!
Caveat: I use version 1.3.1 ... ya, I know.
Scenario: you're doing a directory compare of 2 directories and a few files have been renamed in one of the directories.
The meld display shows a green (new) file on the left "fileabc.cc" with a grey strike-through on the right
just below it, a grey strike-through file on the left and a green (new) file on the right "fileabc.cpp"
you would really like to compare fileabc.cc vs. fileabc.cpp ...
Solution:
1. double click the fist green file in the left column (it opens a new tab displaying the single file)
2. click back on the first tab (the directory comparison)
3. double click the second green file in the right column (it opens a new tab displaying the single file)
4. now type "control-N" to open a new comparison (it opens a new window, with blank text boxes as the file names)
5. move the new comparison window off top of the existing meld window but where you can still see the two blank text boxes
6. click on the second tab (the first single file) NOTE: the full path file name is automatically selected
7. middle click the first blank text box of the new comparison window and the full path name of the single file is pasted into it
8. click on the third tab (the second single file) NOTE: again the full path file name is automatically selected
9. middle click the second blank text box of the new comparison window and the full path name is pasted into it
10. click OK, the new comparison window goes away and a 4th tab opens with the desired comparison
This also works for comparing two files on the same side of the directory compare
Hurray for productivity increase!
