Another issue I'd noticed in my test is, Meld's icon (logo) was not shown on Unity launcher (Meld 1.8.1 has not such a problem). I noticed that after Meld 1.8.1 was released there were some cleanup, and this might be the cause of the problem.

Ubuntu 13.10 does have GTK+3.8, but it has not officially released yet.

I am sad that I can't enjoy the latest version of meld(:
