Previously I never succeeded.
With those 2 'ticks', it finds the first matching byte on the display only.
Once the endianism is determined you can use:
-> cat Log | hexdump | grep 2f3a ==
Maybe you entered, in MC's search dialog, "2f3a" instead of "2f 3a"?
==================
well no, a small file pasted here [with line overflow]:-
00000000 23 21 2F 62 │ 69 6E 2F 73 │ 68 0A 0A 23 │ 67 67 31 20 │ 77 69
6C 79 │ 2B 74 65 78 #!/bin/sh..#gg1 wily+tex
00000018 74 2B 77 69 │ 6E 64 6F 77 │ 20 44 0A 0A │ 67 31 32 37 │ 37 20
4C 20 │ 44 0A 0A 65 t+window D..g1277 L D..e
00000030 78 69 74 20 │ 30 0A 0A
xit 0..
----- with: (*) Hexadecimal it finds eg.: 64 6F 77 20
but it seems to only be able the find the 1st match in the search-file.
Still that's quite usefull.
