refresh/drawing issues in gnome-terminal / Japanese fonts

Hi,

Running midnight commander in gnome-terminal with a Japanese environment exhibits some drawing issues.  I don't have 
this problem in KDE's terminal emulator.

I've tried fiddling w/the font settings, but haven't figured out anything that fixes this.
