Hot key set

Is there any guide to show us how to map a user defined hot key? in my
Centos 5U3, "Delete" key can't delete files as usual.
Also, I want use F2 to rename the selected file, but it was assigned to "menu".

I googled but only found some articles told me the assigned hot key
list,  am I missing anything?
It would be much better if someony write such a guide on
