mc's weird condition... again...

I've begun asking myself: Could this weird loss of stderr (as one of the 
symptoms appears to be) be due to something not compiled threadsafe when 
it should have been? As is wont with LFS (Linux From Scratch), 
everything is compiled in situ.

Also, forgot one symptom last time: svgalib error messages appear on 
mc's own command line.
