Can't start mc without x windows

I just installed the
latest midnight commander on Fedora Core 4, using the RPM. All went
great
I am ssh'd into my
linux box. When I run mc from the command line, it always tries to start
an xwindows session. Is there a way to force mc to run in console mode
only?
