Re: 4.6.0-pre1: cpio errors on RPMs

Hello, Moritz!

Try copying CONTENTS.cpio to a local filesystem and then open it there.

I now see what the real problem is. Not knowing what to expect, I
indeed "opened" the file, but using F3. :-)

Entering it like a directory (which wasn't all too obvious to me,
sorry), it's fine! *wonder*

Well, let's see what we have in mc.ext:

shell/.cpio
        Open=%cd %p#ucpio
        View=%view{ascii} cat '%f' | cpio -ictv

This means that opening the file by pressing Enter uses internal cpio,
while viewing by F3 uses an external cpio. It should be GNU cpio, and you
must have some problem with it.

You have a 64-bit compiler, right?

Wrong. I am indeed on a Sparc Ultra 2, but my gcc defaults to 32bit
code, which I use for cross-Sun-platform compatibility.

So, is the problem between desk and chair, now? ;-)

Not sure about that. You reported that you had some problem and mentioned
error messages, but you failed to describe the problem so far. To report
a problem do this:

1) Describe what you did (write "I pressed F3", NOT "I entered the file")
2) Describe what you expect to get ("I expect a listing to appear)
3) Describe what you got (quote error messages _exactly_, don't rephrase
them).
