Re: 4.6.0-pre1: cpio errors on RPMs

Hi Pavel, hi list,

Try copying CONTENTS.cpio to a local filesystem and then open it there.

I did that now. It shows the same problem. On the other hand, "cpio
-itv < /path/to/local/CONTENTS.cpio" is okay. Am I now using mc's
internal cpio code on this local copy?

If you have "Empty output from child filter", then some external software
is involved. Do you have rpm and rpm2cpio in the path?

Yes indeed. I'm _not_ using Solaris' own rpm2cpio, which is delivered
with Solaris 8 - as a Perl scriptlet.

RPM version 4.0.3

You mean you can browse that RPM without entering CONTENTS.cpio, right?

Exactly.

My guess is that something is wrong with your rpm2cpio.

[long lines, sorry:]
eedmoba sun115:/tmp/uk/mc/mc-4.6.0-pre1 > rpm2cpio ~/tmp/soft/autotrace-0.28-mn1.src.rpm | gfile -
standard input: ASCII cpio archive (SVR4 with no CRC)
eedmoba sun115:/tmp/uk/mc/mc-4.6.0-pre1 > rpm2cpio ~/tmp/soft/autotrace-0.28-mn1.src.rpm | wc -c
 210096

Works correctly (I won't dump the contents here though, just believe
me. ;->)

I believe something is wrong in my cpio <-> mc chain. Sun's own cpio
_cannot_ be the problem, because on a platform where it is GNU
compatible (Solaris 8), I get the same errors.

Confused,
Moritz
