Ok. Thanks to you and all for the feedback on this :-)
I think the square corners are worse than the rounded corners, even
when noncomposited.
This seems to work:
When not composited, use window shape (*),
when composited, use no window shape, just draw the corners transparently.
This is now in master. I believe the WM awesome showed drawing
glitches only when shape and compositing were combined.
This means rounded corners by default. Square corners with square
highlights inside -- is left to styling (either included or can be
plugin/coded)
(*) Window shape = which pixels you can click to focus the window.
