What if un-armed instruments are greyed out in general? the icon,
waveform etc could all have a different pallete for armed/unarmed.
would provide a more at a glance idea of what's hot/not.

Sort of. However, if we do that, then it's just an icon of a grey
circle; will anyone know what it means?
