Maybe the solution is to have a libmtp GVfs backend and somehow make
that expose the "metadata before data" API that you need (whatever
that means). I don't know. But I do know that the solution isn't to
keep having multiple user-mode apps bang on the same hardware (except
for very special purpose feature like e.g. tethered shooting etc.).
