This looks to have been a problem with gst-plugins-good-1.0.24, 1.0.25 works with the commands below.

Note that neither rygel-0.8.1 nor 0.8.2 will display jpeg images using gst-plugins-1.0.25 and the rygel media renderer


$ gst-launch filesrc location=/mnt/sda1/media/image/file.jpg ! jpegdec ! ffmpegcolorspace ! freeze ! autovideosink

$ gst-launch playbin uri=file:///mnt/sda1/media/image/file.jpg [image flashes quickly on the screen]
