There are yellow minibusses in Gumussuyu.

It is very close to Taksim square, They pass near the unv. I will try how you can find them. 
There is The Marmara Hotel in Taksim square. You will take the hotel your right side and you will follow the way, the way will turn right, when you take right you will see those minibusses, when you ask them basicly BAHCESEHIR UNV. , i guess they will help you. It costs 1,4 YTL around 0,75 €. These minibusses are called as DOLMUS.
Or you can find a public bus in Taksim Square. There are a lot of public busses which pass in Besiktas, Be careful if you use public bus, because some busses go to Asian side of Istanbul so they get double price by AKBIL, if you say to driver "Besiktas" and pay cash, it is 0,75 € again =)

The tram doesnt pass in Taksim. You have three options; TAXI, DOLMUS, Public Bus
If you use TAXI, it wont cost so much Money, now i am not sure about the price. Try and tell us too =)

I recommend "DOLMUS" to come Besiktas from Taksim.

Thanks, this is helpful. I'm staying closer to Taksim Square, however--I 
assume there's a tram stop near there as well...?
