Re: [guadec-list] Press team

Just to clarify my opinion, I think press releases are useful to get
news in the usual media that are following - no big deal but we need to
do it.

GUADEC 2006 is in a good position to get stories in the mass media,
though. Not based on GUADEC itself, but on people and organization
taking part in it. This is how most events get indirect visibility in
the press.

I wasn't suggesting a press release covering Nokia, Google and Intel. I
was suggesting stories involving cool stuff of these companies. Having
their name in the headlines will make other journalists read at thenm,
perhaps request an interview, perhaps send the Barcelona correspondent
to Vilanova one day, etc.

Once you get a cool story involving, say, Google it will be easier to
find positive contacts once the story is distributed through the
Catalan/Spanish list of contacts of Vilanova + Generalitat + Softcatalà
(they sum up hundreds of media).

For instance, there is a OLPC story interesting for the media, we have
Jim Gettys and we have the RedHat people probably willing to help. I'm
sure we can get 5 different stories woth a similar interest delivered at
5 different times from now until the GUADEC opening. Plus the press
release.

One person to write one story, if there are 3 volunteers 3 stories.
