Change how notebook pages/tabs look

Hi again,

I just wanted to know if it is possible to change how notebook 
pages/tabs appear using some setting (maybe CSS?). The only thing I 
could find is the Gtk style properties in Gtk+, but those properties are 
all read only.  Do I have to create a custom widget?
