Making a Gtk::window transparent

Hi,
I want to make a Gtk::Window transparent. My OS is ubuntu 6.10 ( linux ). Actually I am not able to use set_opacity() which can only be used on gtkmm 2.12. Can u plz help me to do this on ubuntu 6.10?
