We also noticed that the win32 port of our application
(http://heavymole.sourceforge.net) is much slower than on UNIX.

This is particularly noticeable on a Pentium 2 233Mhz 256 Mb RAM: the
application reacts quite quickly on Red Hat 7.1 but is really slow on win98
(idem for the gtkmm demos)

Of course, this is not only due to the slowness of the gtk port but also to
the one of the platform, but our application is compiled natively and the
difference between the behavior on the 2 platforms is quite big
