And I was trying to outline where I think that the current solution is
better than your proposed API: it has compile-time type-safetiness.
(Maybe I didn't find the proper words to explain what is meant by that 
term?!)
This is of course just some detail but it was the first thing that came
to my mind while I was reading your original mail.
