According to their website (http://www.k-3d.org/gtkglext/Main_Page),
there are Gtk2 OpenGL bindings for Python.

Is there anything equivalent for Perl?

I would like to write an (I hope Gtk2-Perl) application to, amongst
other things, display 3D models.

Or am I better off learning Python? Or something else?

Learn xs, and make the Perl port of gtkglext.

There are already perl bindings for gtkglext ---

Last i checked, the real trouble is the lack of a stable and portable OpenGL
binding for Perl. There are several available, but each one is a pain to get
working. Your mileage may vary, as it was >2 years ago that i checked.
