Good to know.  I think I'll patch the code myself and submit a patch. 
Is asking the X server which color is which a good idea or should I
force the color map to be a certain way?  Obviously non-X platforms
could share this bug, but I don't think win32, for example, supports
anything less than 8 bpp.
