how to show a window X time ?

Hi all

I'm  a gtk beginner. I wan to make an application that show a window 
with a label embedding in it. But after x time that window is shown I 
wan to destroy that window.  I tried gtk_signal_connect with 
expose_event to call a function but the label is not shown. What's 
wrong?  How can  I do it?
