GTK_TYPE_BOXED and GTK_TYPE_FOREIGN

Hi,
What's the purpose of GTK_TYPE_BOXED and GTK_TYPE_FOREIGN?
I've seen GnomeUI inherit from GTK_TYPE_BOXED for some
non-GtkObject structures, but the documentation is very
modest about what they *mean*.
