Programs compiled for GTK version 1.0 don't work with version 1.2 - why? Why
isn't GTK backwards compatible?
I simply don't understand this and can't find any info on this...
Any time there is a change to the minor version number, it reflects
API changes. GTK 1.4 (whatever that is, some day) won't be backward
compatible with 1.2, either.
So, the best answer to your question is that the reason it's 1.2.x, and
not 1.0.x, is that programs written for 1.0 won't work with it.
