FreeBSD uses an old patched gnu linker since gnu dropped a.out support
in favour of ELF, it should work fine though.

Do you have the libraries and include files in the proper place?
(unless you changed it with --prefix=.., it should be in
/usr/local/lib/lib{gdk,gtk}.* and /usr/local/include/{gdk,gtk})
if you have try compiling something.
