window sizing, root window size

I guess this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything about it in
the archives.
How do you in GTK...
...set a window's current size (not changing its minimal size)?
...set a window's minimal size?
(...set a window's maximal size, if that's possible?)
...get the size of the root window/display?
The last and first one are necessary if you want to implement the --geometry
option.
