This does not work either, see for instance gtk-doc's own
test suite which sets the variable

  SCAN_OPTIONS=--deprecated-guards="GTKDOC_TESTER_DISABLE_DEPRECATED" 2>&1 | tee gtkdoc-scan.log

I.e., make distclean would create file gtk-scan.log.
