Currently I'm thinking about starting with GtkHTML2 and moving to
GtkHTML3 once GtkPrint is supported. I already coded some basic

all I need.
I maintain a GNOME-free version of GtkHTML at
https://stage.maemo.org/svn/maemo/projects/haf/trunk/gtkhtml/
It's basically gtkhtml-3.13.91 with a bunch of patches applied to it.
If you applied every patch in
https://stage.maemo.org/svn/maemo/projects/haf/trunk/gtkhtml/upstream/patches/
up to and including gtkhtml_100_dependency_removal_cleaning.diff to the
upstream source package
https://stage.maemo.org/svn/maemo/projects/haf/trunk/gtkhtml/upstream/tarballs/gtkhtml-3.13.91.tar.bz2
you would have a GNOME-free GtkHTML3 - at least I'm fairly certain you
would.
