I don't seem to have gtk-config; here is out put of your command.
[root aztecrisk karihalo]# pkg-config --modversion gtk+
sh: gtk-config: command not found
sh: gtk-config: command not found
sh: gtk-config: command not found
In that case
1. You very likely do not have the Gtk+ 1.2 development
package.
2. Something is wrong with your Fedora Core 5 installation,
or at least the pkg-config there. It should *not* try to
execute gtk-config.
What
which pkg-config
prints? Does it print /usr/bin/pkg-config? And what
rpm -q pkgconfig
prints? Does it print pkgconfig-0.20-2.2.1?
