I suppose the original poster may have not known this, and that his

In fact, the word that I missed was "utility" as in "string utility
functions" meaning it likely has nothing to do with GString. My mistake.

I still hold to my other criticisms though. People who say "KISS"
without substantiating their claim are insulting. They put more
emphasis on the words 'simple' and 'stupid' than content in the body
of their argument. Why is it more simpler? Why is somebody stupid for
not keeping it simpler?

In the real world, simple is not always best. Simple is just preferable
to complex when all other requirements are met.

GLIB is a good example of this. GLIB is quite complex in areas, however,
it also provides substantial benefits, and meets numerous requirements
that libc.a doesn't come close to providing. For the people that like
tool analogies, GLIB is a multi-purpose tool kit with some really cool
features that most other tool kits don't have. Why stick to using a hammer
when you can use the screw driver, the staple gun, or the tin snips? It is
all available to you at no cost except the time it takes you to learn it.
Becoming profficient with many tools is *always* preferable to sticking with
a single tool for anybody who wants to progress.
