(1.2.x) GtkText lines limitation

Hello..

I'd like to limit the lines in e GtkText widget.
When inserting new text the some top lines should be removed
if the number of lines exceed a certain number.

I cant figure out how to get the current number of lines
and how to delete x lines from the top of the buffer.

Can anyone help or is there a simple example?
