Gtk+ and shared memory segments

Hi all,
        I wanted to know if there is a function to copy a widget from one
location to another location. You see I need a child process to add widgets to
a parent's NoteBook widget. I thought of using shared memory to do this but
then wouldn't that mean that the pointers would be invalid. So is there an easy
way or should I do it the very hard way of copying the contents of the pointers
within the structure to the shared memory segment?
