How do I force a redraw?

I'm doing something rather odd; I'm overriding draw_string for a style
and calling gettext from within my draw_string function. It looks like
I could automagically translate all strings displayed through that
function, assuming I can get the window to repaint once my LANGUAGE
environment variable has changed (I'm doing it on the fly.)

Is there something global you can emit to force your window to repaint?
